Accomodations and Food
The Sitka International Hostel is available. It is right across the street from the Sheldon Jackson campus. There are some semi-private rooms, and a large dormitory room. It has limited kitchen facilities.

Sitka has several hotels and bed and breakfasts. Check the Sitka Convention & Visitors Bureau for information on these options. Some local Sacred Harp singers also may be willing to host visiting singers. Let us know your preference.

Thursday night we will eat at a local restaurant. While locals are welcome, this is an opportunity for our out of town guests get to know each other. There may be some singing.

Friday night we will have a soup and bread dinner before the singing school, hosted by local singers.

During the convention, we will have “dinner on the grounds.” Local Sacred Harp singers bring potluck food. Visiting singers are welcome to provide food, but it is not expected. We like to feature local food. Past years have included: salmon (fillets, chowder, etc.), sablefish, rockfish, moose, fiddlehead ferns, beach asparagus, oysters, homemade bread, brownies and pies. The dinner is available to all singers. If you have special dietary needs, please let us know ahead of time so we can try to accomodate them.

Saturday night, after the convention, we will have a dinner of leftovers and some new offerings. After eating and socializing for a while, we will sing from the Cooper Book.

Breakfasts and other meals are “on your own.” There are a number of restaurants and coffee shops in Sitka. Singers staying at the hostel can make a light breakfast there, too.
